Opening Screening | Death of a Queen

Riikka Kaihovaara | Finland | 2022 | 55 min | Finnish | Classification U

The documentary film Kuningattaren kuolema (Death of a Queen) gets its Finnish premiere at SINFF. The opening screening will start with a short film called True Bug.

There's a worldwide pollinator decline going on, that is crucial for the environment and in the end for the people too. Young scientist Lotta Kaila starts a research on pesticides' effect on most important pollinators, bees and bumblebees.

It is fascinating to follow the progress of the research and how complicated it is to find evidence. And in the end will the evidence be heard. The archive material gives a review on a pesticides history and the camera gets impressively close to an insect. The cinematography is on the other hand romantic and cute and on the other hand not in the lightest end.

Director Riikka Kaihovaara will attend the screening and she will answer questions after the screening.
