Lake Saimaa in Finland is one of the biggest lakes in the European Union. The huge freshwater lake is home to unique animals such as the Saimaa ringed seal. Its eco-system is put under threat by climate change. Warmer weather and eutrophication already show their effects. Not the only environmental hazard: peat mining worsened the water quality in nearby swamps for decades. Locals - fishermen, biologists, and others - take matters into their own hands and try to develop strategies to protect their lake. An inspiring perspective on life around Lake Saimaa in times of global challenges.
